Cutaneous Candidiasis

Cutaneous Candidiasis is a skin infection caused by a fungus and includes vaginal yeast infection, diaper rash, and infections of the nails.

Causes

Candida is a fungus that grows on the hair, skin, and nails and can be found in places that are warm and allow for excess moisture on the body. Oral thrush is a form of Candida infection of the moist lining of the mouth, occurs when people take antibiotics. Can be a sign of an HIV infection or other weakened immune system disorders.

Risk Factors

Individuals with weakened immune systems are more likely to have this infection. Those who are overweight or have diabetes are also at a higher risk. Candida infection can return. Infection to nails may cause nails to become oddly shaped.

Symptoms

An itching rash with pimple-like bumps that continues to grow or spread may be a sign of cutaneous candidiasis. Rash on the skin folds, genitals, middle of the body, buttocks, under the breasts, and other areas of skin or infection of the hair follicles that may look like pimples can also be signs.

Diagnoses

A doctor can diagnose the rash by sight, although a small sample of the rash may be taken as well.

Maintaining good general Health and proper hygiene are important. Try to keep your body exposed to air. Losing weight, proper hygiene, powders that dry out the skin, and a lifestyle change may help treat the rash. Proper blood sugar control can be helpful to those with diabetes. Antifungal creams and medications are also available.

Prevention

This rash can be prevented by proper hygiene and a healthy lifestyle.
